Six of our favourite wines from producers working naturally in this much feted region.
Arnaud Chapuis Ouverture Maceration Petillant 2022
100% Aligote given around a week whole bunch maceration, bottled as a pet nat and aged on the lees for over a year. Incredibly invigorating and tropical fizz.
Domaine La Cotelette, Meligote 2023
From a single parcel planted on it's own rootstock (ungrafted) 2/3 Melon De Bourgogne 1/3 Aligote. This has a brilliant bright fruit, fresh like morning dew.
Domaine De Mandelot, Bourgogne Aligote Les Eaux Chariees 2023
100% Aligoté from 75-80 year old vines on predominantly gray clay, the vineyard is located on a dome surrounded by two valleys.
Macerated on the skins for approximately 18 days, (20% whole bunch) then aged in barrel. This is a beautiful example of macerated Aligoté with bright fruit, texture and a lovely line of acidity keeping everything in balance.
Les Flaneurs, Plutot Rose 2023
30% Pinot Noir from Mancey 35% Marsanne 35% Roussanne.
This unlikely blend came about to balance the freshness of the Pinot Noir he'd given a short maceration on with the rounder Marsanne, Roussane blend. It works beautifully, remind us of some of the best old-school provence rose's alive with fruit!
Domaine De Mandelot, Hautes-Cotes De Beaune 2023
The Hautes Côtes Pinot come from plots aged 35 to 45 years, planted in predominantly clay soils, exposed to the South. 2023 gave a generous yield of just over 45HL/ha for these plots. 70% whole bunch maceration and aging in barrels (5% new barrels). Bottled last June. Lovely, expressive fruit, this is fine, elegant and long, enjoyable now, but will be a wonder with a little bottle age.
Arnaud Chapuis, Ouverture Rouge 2023
100% Pinot Noir from an incredible winemaker in the Beaune, making wines in tiny amounts in a truly artisanal fashion. The 2023 is a top example of his craft
